A very exciting date is coming up soon - when Holy Cross children will be receiving the Eucharist for the first time! The sacrament of First Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 PM at St. Michael Church (2223 Indian Hills Drive). Anticipating you may have questions, here's some information that you need to know.
Rehearsal will begin at 12:30 PM on Sunday, April 23rd. Please come dressed for the Mass. Seating charts will be in place and someone will help you find your spot. The goal of the rehearsal is to let your child know how everything will work during Mass (so no surprises). During rehearsal Father David will also bless any gifts or items your child has received.
The dress code for boys is dress pants and a white shirt, (tie/coat/suit are all optional). The dress code for girls is a white or off-white dress. They may wear veils, bows, headbands, flowers (or nothing) in their hair; gloves (if worn) should be removed during Mass.
The Mass will be live streamed, so family members who can't attend can watch the big event. The live stream can be found on our YouTube Channel. A link will be sent out as we get closer to the date. We are planning to seat children and parents in reserved assigned spots up front in church, so other children and extended family members will sit outside the reserved area.
A professional photographer will be there to take a group photo and any individual photos after Mass. Forms are included in the letter and need to be brought with you on April 23rd. Please use your discretion and your good judgement concerning taking photos during Mass. Don’t let the camera (or any other distraction) take away from the Sacrament of First Holy Communion and the liturgy. There will be plenty of time after Mass for family pictures.
IMPORTANT: If you are not registered members of Holy Cross Parish, you will need to obtain written permission from your Pastor at your parish.
We look forward to being a part of this exciting time in your child’s life. As always, if you have any questions, please call the Holy Cross Office at 712-277-2949 ext. 100.
