First Sunday of Advent ️
This week we focus on Hope.
It is only fitting that the first candle on the Advent wreath represents Hope – the first Sunday of Advent not only leads us to anticipate the birth of Christ but celebrate the beginning of a new liturgical season as well. The first candle is purple, the primary color of Advent and a color symbolizing royalty. Sometimes called the “Prophecy Candle,” the first candle harkens us back to Isaiah’s foretelling of the birth of Christ and all of the promises God gave us in the Old Testament that would be fulfilled by the birth of Jesus. Pray with us:
Leader: Come, Lord Jesus, set us free.
All: Come, Lord Jesus, come.
(Light the first purple Advent Candle)
Thank you, Lord, for this season of Advent when we prepare for your arrival. Help us to keep our eyes open to see you when you come to us. Bless this food, which reminds us of the banquet we will all share with you one day in heaven. Amen.
Leader: Come, Lord Jesus, set us free.
All: Come, Lord, Jesus, com.

Holy Cross Prayer Shawl Ministries knit/crochet shawls and robes to console those who are grieving, comfort those who are ill, and bring hope to those in despair. They may also be made to celebrate life and its milestones. The reasons to create a shawl or lap robe are as numerous as the people who make them.
